A school is an institution that is established to provide learning environment for pupils and students. In school, pupils and students are taught by following the directions of teachers and this space is the one which offers learning. Countries have adopted formal system of education which is usually compulsory for every individual. Schools are different in many countries but usually there are primary schools in which pupils are taught and there are secondary schools in which students who have completed primary schools are taught. Schools play many roles in the society and even the nation as well. This essay seeks to describe the roles of school in the society and in the national policies.

Through school, learners are able to get knowledge, learn languages and social skills that they need to communicate with others, and also get personal identity. Not only does the school provide academic curriculum to students which is made by the teachers, but one learns the rules that one needs to interact with others in the society. Schools even awards students who obey authority, who follow directions and schedule, and even learn how to behave in a desirable manner. In addition to socialization, schools transmit values and cultural standards to new peer groups and shape a large population into a community that shares national identity. Schools teach students to be patriotic through activities such as raising and saluting the nation’s flag. Students are prepared for one’s future through academic training and nurturing of talents and abilities.

National policies are wide course of efforts that are put in place by a government in pursuit to fulfill its objectives. These national policies can be education, health services, child care, recreational facilities, and services, land ownership, and use decisions. Schools play roles in national’s policies by demonstrating ways that the government could use to fulfill its agendas. One role that is played by school in national policies is health: schools play this role through health education. Children are taught the importance of nutrients and balance diet so that one might live and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Another role is safety where schools establish anti bullying management so that children will remain safe from bullying and other harm. Schools improve failures across people of different ethnic groups and unofficial absenteeism that is not allowed. This is done to ensure that children get most in one’s life, enjoy life and achieve one’s future. Schools can create strategies that will help students to reach one’s potential and this is done so that children who are raised from poor backgrounds will get a good standard of living. Schools also engage children to contribute in the society through community involvement so that children will not engage in bad behaviors hence reducing crime.
