Haunted House (Descriptive Essay Sample)

Haunted Houses

A haunted house is one believed to be occupied by ghosts. People believe to hear sounds and see spiritual creatures or the spirits of the previous homeowners. Have you ever live in a haunted house or know someone who has? What is your take, do you believe in haunted houses and would you continue staying in one if it was haunted? There is a post that was recently put up on a Facebook group, whereby Lisa (not her real name) shared that her son keeps talking to someone and when asked who he is talking to, he points the window, but the lady does not see anyone. So recently Lisa saw three marks on her wall in the evening, and by morning the marks were gone.

Many people commented on her post sharing their experiences with ghosts.  Most of the comments pointed out that most ghosts like appearing to children since they are still pure and innocent. The interesting thing in that post is that most people continue living in such houses even after discovering the house is haunted. Based on the many experiences shared, for instance by one person, she described her experience in the new house they bought. She explained how at times they would lock the door and find it open; lights were being switched on and off, the door would bang on their faces and many other creepy things until they chose to move out after # years in that house.

There is a belief that most of the houses haunted by spirits are either the spirits of the previous owner of the house if they died in it or the spirit one or more of the family members who previously lived there. For example, most people who have visited the Franklin Tower, locally termed as haunted in Ohio claim that they have seen a woman looking out the window, they saw doors flying off the hinges and other things that are creepy. The allegation is that four children died in that house and that the owner killed his mistress and niece. The issue of whether to believe in haunted houses or not gets its basis on an individual’s experience and cultural background.
