Philosophy in Life
Philosophy have always been part of human development and improvement in most many aspects like in moral, ethics, business and others. Philosophy as defined from its Greek etymology is the love of wisdom and lot of civilization have its fair share of having its own principle as philosophy in life. These thoughts have been existing in order to guide human behaviour and assessing them about their existence, knowledge, values, and reasoning. Amongst the known figures who have given remarkable philosophical views are Plato, Nietzsche, Buddha and Confucius.
One that I like the most is the saying that goes something like this, “Sky above me, Earth below me and Fire within me” and personally I adopt this idea to be my personal mantra or my philosophy in life. The first time I read this saying I quickly related this to how I see myself in the world. I accepted that in these vast universe I am only a single dot, bounded by the great sky which its ends are cannot be seen and chained by the gravity of this earth that no matter what I could my feet shall always touch the ground, but alas! Even there are things that limits me it doesn’t mean I have to stop from pursuing my dreams in life… it only means that I have to keep the fire inside my heart burning to reach and conquer something that I always dream off.
In another point of view, I understand the “Sky above me” part of the context as something as the limitless possibilities that the world may offer to humans just as our eyes cannot chase its end. Sky contains the great sun which could mean our glorious moments in life, or the clouds that sometimes makes great comfort when the hotness of the sun is too much to bear it is as if the life tells us there could be rest even in our trials or tribulations, and the moon and the star the illuminates the night sky giving hope that when life seems dark and hopeless we can always think of how the small shimmer and glimmering light can help us get though. “Earth below me” is something I imagined as something telling me to always be humble in my achievements. Having achievements in life shouldn’t make my feet and heart lift in the ground, which I should remember where I came from and be thankful always. The ground also represents as somewhat illustration of paths in our lives. Some have the smooth road, easy to pass and many likes to walk but clearly we gain no skills from going there but to those who chose to make their own trail and go beyond what’s already been discovered and written, an adventure and learning shall be rewarded upon them something that the mediocre will never have. And lastly, “Fire within me” as depicted as the will to live or passion. In Japanese term they have this word “Hikikomori” or the reason of why we wake up in the morning which could be someone important to us, or something we need to do in our life which I think same as the idea given by the “Fire within me”. We need to find the drive, the will to continue or our passion in life to able to fully appreciate our self and be capable of enjoying our short life in this earth.
In my opinion, everyone has their own philosophy in life. It may be religious base, ethically belief, morally belief and so on, but overall they are collection of ideas to make humans improve in their daily lives and as much as possible to be productive, especially on chasing their dreams and goals.
