50 Classification Essay Topics

Classification Essay Topics

Find out 50 the most interesting classification essay topics. We will also share with you how you can write a classification essay.

Many subjects can be discovered through classification, through illustrating, identifying unusual and unique methods, types and varieties.

The most important thing while writing classification essay is to remember that you should divide your topic into three or more parts. Mind that all the names should be of the same type of the word, for example, all adjectives or nouns.

e.g. Cell phones can be classified according to their cost into expensive, affordable and cheap.

There are several things you’d better keep in mind. Firstly, topics for your essay should be interesting for you! Find a classification you care about, something that will not only reveal the facts but also help you to demonstrate your own attitude.

Once you choose a topic, see if you can use a number in the very name of an essay or somehow generalize your idea, for example, ‘There are four types of  love’. Then write categories or the names of the parts on different papers and organize them in the sequence that might work best for the topic. It can be time sequence, logical sequence, spatial sequence (actually everything depends on the topic itself). You can even group the same observations together to save the interest of the readers till the end of your essay. By describing, exemplifying, narrating or using any other strategies you can develop each part or category.

Don’t start writing your essay with the beginning or ending, the most important part is the middle one. My advice is to add an introduction only after you’ve selected and arranged all the details. Remember to clearly identify your subject in the introduction. If you narrowed your classification, make it clear from the very beginning. You might also provide some general facts or informative details to attract the readers.

By the way, don’t hesitate to show your draft to classmates or group-mates. Let them read you essay and express their opinion. Only then you will know whether your writing will make an effect you wanted it to make.
