Introduction is made up of two parts: the opening and the thesis statement. The purpose of the opening is to grab the reader’s attention and the thesis statement to give the reader an idea of what it is all about. Hook the reader’s attention with: an interesting fact, a quote or a question, descriptive part or a brave opinion, or statistic.

Main Idea #1 states the main point of the paragraph – your first reason. The main idea usually emerges in a sentence called the topic or opening sentence. The rest of the paragraph supports, expands, and provides details or examples to help prove your topic valid. You may explain cause and effect, use quotes, amazing facts, statistics and description, or answer why the topic is important. As a transition into body paragraph 2, you may want to introduce the second reason from your thesis statement, but make it shortly.

Main Idea # 2 states the main point of the paragraph – your second reason. The main idea and supporting details reveals in the same way as in a first body paragraph. Just remember, the general statement mentioned in your introduction should directly correlate to one of those main ideas in your body paragraphs. Provide at least two to three arguments to support your idea. The transition words and phrases might be applied at this stage of writing.

Main Idea # 3 states the main point of the paragraph – your third reason. Here exactly the same rules as in previous paragraphs work. The main idea is followed by the supporting details, exposing related facts and evidences. And so on, it could be more than 3 main idea as well as paragraphs. At the end of the last paragraph use a transition into your conclusion. In this part you may want to introduce the opposite opinion that some people might believe.

Conclusion contains call for action – “So what?” It explains why the topic is important — how it affects the reader, expands the narrow topic to a more general observation about the main idea. Also it motivates the reader to take a certain action or think in some different way. As well the conclusion provides a disproof to those who have opposite opinion and their reasons. Use a concluding statement that brings your essay to closure. Never add new materials to the conclusion.
