Women Exploitation (Essay Sample)

Women Exploitation

Women exploitation is an undeniable happening throughout our history and society. In our patriarchal society, the exploitation of women is present in a lot of different fields including mass media to the common workplace. In mass media, the use and portrayal of women for the audiences through television, film and advertising are greatly sexualized in order to increase the appeal of a product or a service without taking into consideration the detriment of, or without regard to, the interests of the women portrayed, or women in general.  This kind of view is subconsciously proliferated by the systems in place of our societal institutions. In the end, it is the elite, or those in power who are manipulating the exploitation of women through their influence on culture and economy.

The malpractice of women exploitation are present also in activities by which a person achieves sexual gratification, financial gain or an advancement. These are visible in the abuse or exploitation of a person’s sexuality by revoking a person’s human right to dignity, equality, autonomy, and physical and mental well-being which include trafficking, prostitution, prostitution tourism, mail-order-bride trade, pornography, stripping, battering, incest, rape and sexual harassment. These types of sexual exploitation can more likely happen to women and children that are vulnerable by poverty and economic development policies. Refugees and displaced people and on women in the migrating process can also be targeted by the syndicates that are capitalizing on such chaotic experiences in the planet.

Sexual exploitation eroticizes women’s inequality and is a vehicle for racism and “first world” domination through their resources and privilege of going to visit the poorer countries. This creates a mode of disproportionately victimizing the minority and other people, especially “third world” women.

The American Psychological Association (APA) reported that the eroticization of women in the media is one of the greatest avenues that proliferates women exploitation. The massive reach of media and the majority of population that belong among youth creates the potential for massive exposure to the portrayal of women as sexual objects. This indirectly educates young women about their worth and place within this society. Analyzing the different media, the results undeniably show that girls are portrayed in a sexual manner more often than boys usually presented and dressed in revealing clothing, with poses and facial expressions that depict sexual readiness.

Our collective consciousness is slowly remembering the worth and respect that not only women but all of us, human beings, deserve. The exploitation of women is indeed a popular topic within the premises of our lifetime but which is it that continues to influence our world views and beliefs? It is in the beholder that knows the level of desirability in which that he or she sees, but those that impose on the people what to desire are the companies that are deliberately using the sexuality of womanhood for objectification and casualization. In our modern era, the most common theme for a woman to be beautiful is that they should be sexy and thin with big breasts and smooth curves but in reality, majority of the population are far from looking like those. In this sense, women are already exploited due to the cultural pressures that are expected from them which in turn puts the burden of developing a sense of security and personal identity. Women in turn, end up always glancing to the illusion of majority and constantly trying hard in order to be accepted and measured up to those around them. In the end, it is up to the present population in altering once again the generally accepted notion of women. The trend of feminism is only a front for the true goal of humanity is balance and equality. By recognizing that there is worth inside a person beyond his or her appearance through his acts in kindness and productivity, the world can become a better and more wonderful place to live in, not only for women but for all people alike.
