Education and Success: Is There a Correlation
It is difficult to establish the correlation between education and accomplishment particularly if one examines wealth as the sole variable or the essential parameter. Of more concern in regard to education is widening one’s mind horizon. Where Education is viewed in terms of possessing a graduation certificate or a college degree, then there is no relationship between success and education. For one to be successful in a given profession or field, he or she should have ample knowledge and understanding of the convolutions involved. Such knowledge do not necessarily come with an academic degree but can be acquired from field experience and experiences of others. It follows therefore that while there is some degree of correlation; success is not solely dependent on education.
Arguably, prescribed education in the modern world is overrated with parents and other members of the society hammering children and teenagers with the importance of obtaining a degree. However, success is mainly based on one’s craving for his work or undertaking and the ability to maintain a clear vision. Perseverance and craving for realization and constant innovation are just but some key important factors that determines the success of an individual. This does not however imply that there is no correlation between education and accomplishment.
Setting up a new enterprise or rising up to a management position may and often do require different skills, technical competence and knowledge other than the one derived from the education system. These skills and other may come as a natural gift meaning that even in the absence of a college education; some people can still be able to attain success in their undertakings. However, with proper education and the precise kind of aptitude a person may be able to channel his or her talent and take advantage of the natural gift.
A correlation between education and success is dependent on a matter of perception and understanding of different people. An individual may be successful if he or she has the right information and intellect in his area of operation. Here, education plays an important role in regard to provision of information and intelligence. In this context, an educated person is more intellect and has a better chance of being accepted in the organization of their choice. Nevertheless, success cannot be measured merely on the basis of formal employment. There are those who venture in the informal sector and become even more successful as compared with their counterparts in the formal sector.
As aforementioned, perseverance and passion for one’s undertakings plays an important role in determining his or her success. Individuals with a passion for their dreams and who persevere to achieve such dreams have a high chance of becoming successful.Such people do not have to rely on education to achieve this. On this note, it can be argued that success is dependent on more than just education not to mention that success in one area does not imply that one is successful in all other areas such as in social context.
While some people are of the opinion that education is necessary for one to achieve success, this is not necessarily true. On the other hand, basic education helps in enhancing one’s critical thinking skills, allowing him or her to exploit natural talent and become successful. Still, success is dependent on a number of factors save for education including but not limited to perseverance, determination, having a clear visualization and the passion to pursue one’s dreams. This implies that while there is a relationship between education and accomplishments, it is of a low degree.
