Difference Between Disparity And Discrimination

There are social issues that are still concerning our community in the present day. The rise of hate groups significantly increased since Donald Trump took over as the president of the United States, which is an example of how our society deals with disparities and discrimination. As a result, there are more individuals that have been victimized by hate crimes that are still hoping for justice against the perpetrators. The result of disparity and discrimination escalated into violence against the targeted victims. One of the main reasons is the rise of supremacists that are now causing an alarm to the society because this group has one aim, which is to promote harm and discrimination against the minorities.

A disparity is a condition wherein there is a segregating act applied by an individual, group, or an institution towards the victim. The act of disparity can be caused by several factors such as age, race, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, and their religious belief. One example is when an applicant of an institution looking for new employees has been rejected because the company believes that religion has been a significant factor that might cause safety risks to the company. This action alone is considered a disparity because it significantly generates an act that offends the right of a certain individual. A disparity is also evident in places where there is a large concentration of conservative groups who always think negatively towards a certain practice. This is the reason why there are group of minorities that are affected because they are being deprived of their basic rights that were perpetrated by other groups who want to promote harm and hate towards other groups in a certain community (Resmovits, 2013).

Discrimination is an act of totally tarnishing the identity and the rights of an individual or group in terms of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and socio economic status. Discrimination is an elevated act of coercion against an individual because perpetrators are able to instill harm against their victims. The offender can ridicule their victims because of their differences, which is usually unprovoked. These are violence, intimidation, and mass atrocities that have been applied by discriminatory acts. One example is the rampage of white supremacy groups that aim to call on the public to spread the word of hate towards the minorities. Discrimination is considered harmful and a threat to safety towards the affected group or individual. As a result, discrimination can risk a person’s life because they are threatened by hate groups who want to satisfy their anxiety through violence.

Discrimination and disparity are obviously a threat to the community because it promotes harm and denies basic human rights of the affected groups. This form of activity is a violation of justice and to the rights of individuals. A person who has been found guilty of discriminating other individuals or groups because of their social class and demographical status, there is a corresponding legal apprehension that is applied to that particular individual. Discriminatory practices are unacceptable, which is also similar with the acts of disparity against other individuals. There are numerous victims who died due to hate speech or crimes inflicted by groups who are promoting supremacy. Victims were usually mobbed by groups or being shot at a close range as a way to satisfy their anxiety towards minority groups.
