Your First Day At A New School Or College (Essay Sample) 2023

My First Day at College

Education is usually said to be an endless journey. This is quite true, since every day, every year and every turn in life is an opportunity to learn.  From the moment one is born, to the last breath, education indeed, never ends. The real details of education however, come through the distinct steps that are undertaken all the way up. From a curriculum point of view therefore, this entails the journey from elementary to college or university. Everyone has his memorable moment is the ladder of education. I however remember my first day in college as one of the most memorable and special moments in my life, due to the manner in which everything unravelled.

Any high school graduate who awaited to get to college can identify with me that when the day approaches, the feeling is confusing. It is a mixture of feelings altogether. As for me, the same was the case. I was happy due to the fact that not only was I joining my dream college to continue the pursuit of my dreams, but also had the chance to explore new things at a whole new level where I had never been before. This was indeed an encouragement to me. I was excited and raring to go. On the other hand, I was slightly anxious and sad because I was going to miss some of the things I had been used to; friends, neighborhood and even hometown. It was somehow nostalgic.

Just like any other first-time student who perceives college as a walk into total freedom, I was happy to be free. I could do whatever I wanted on my own, at my convenient time and pleasure. I left home convincing and promised my parents that I was old enough to take care of myself. I got to college, and it just turned out to be the opposite of my expectations. I found myself so alone and lost in a world I had no idea of. We were expected to meet the professors in some lecture buildings that I didn’t know, and I had no one to ask.

No explanations were given about anything, and it was so exhausting going round pavements to get to where I was supposed to be. As expected, I missed several sessions. The other thing I found stressful was the online library thing. We were explained to, that in college, a student did most of the part. Students were to use the online library to locate books for research to complete assignments. The bulky part of the class work was done by the students- exhausting right?  Worse still, I did not know how to use the online library and there was no one to show me.

I still found it an interesting experience; getting lost then finding the way again. Learning new things. Admiring new environments and so forth. In most cases, our expectations don’t always turn out the way we want them to. I remember sitting down at some point and regretting why I didn’t allow my parents to come along. All in all, despite the fact that the day ended up gloomy, I still had hope for the next day. I promised to make friends so quickly so that they could help me familiarize with the environment.
