Slavery is defined as an act that involves buying, selling and owning human beings for self-interest especially for the provision of labor. For years, slavery was widely practiced in many parts of the world with the most notable example being slave trade from African countries to European countries like America to boost individual plantation owners. Slavery was wrong and is still wrong, even if it occurred everywhere, especially during the ancient times. For instance, the Sumerians and Babylonians kept slave same as the Egyptians and the famous Roman emperor known for using  slaves as soldiers, servant, and laborers.

Even though many people thought that slavery was beneficial to their kingdoms, slavery was unethical. Slavery is wrong because slavery is based on racism. During the 19th century, the American version of slavery had racist elements. Africans were the major sources of slavery. Specific groups of people were considered as slaves and were meant to provide cheap labor to other races. Slavery came about because plantation owners generated profit depending on the number of laborers; therefore, the key to wealth was to employ many workers at a cheaper cost.  Since European laborers demand high wages, plantation owners devised other ways for getting cheap labor through slavery to reduce the labor costs.

Slavery is wrong because it denies people their freedom that is their birthright, slaves are held against their will. They spend most of the time doing what their master wants, but not what they like doing. Slavery is wrong because it denies people their rightful pay, slaves were considered as a cheap source of labor for Europeans, meaning that the owners paid slaves a minimal monthly fee and hired them out to other farms without additional pay. Slaves with special skills earned much, but still restricted and could not get better jobs like white laborers.

Slavery is wrong because it steals from people what they deserve as slaves are treated harshly. During the early centuries, slaves endured harsh weathers and worked overtime to enrich the farm owners while they lived in pathetic conditions .Even if slaves were well treated by their masters, they were not free to negotiate for the condition of their labor. Slaves had limited choice; they were forced to work, they could not choose when to work, who to work for and what to do. What slaves were offered was not worth their time.

During the periods where slaves were viewed as inferior people meant to serve their masters. All decisions belonged to the master since the master owned the slaves. Humans deserve to be free and freedom is their birthright; therefore, everyone, including slaves has the right to decide and allocate his labor.  Slavery is wrong because it is more of lifetime bondage. Slaves have specific roles and are conditioned to act and think in a specific way.

Slavery is a crime against those who are enslaved because they are exploited and denied life privileges. Slavery was and is still one of the greatest injustices ever committed against humans, as millions of slaves died due to harsh conditions. Even though slave owners, slave traders, and institution that supported slavery justified their actions, slavery is morally wrong. That is why slavery has since been abolished in all parts of the world.  All the descendant of slaves are free people living in better conditions and have excelled in life.  Slavery is considered an unethical and inhuman, but modern slavery has taken a new form with human trafficking remaining an international problem that needs to be addressed since millions of people are enslaved
