The field of philosophy has been blessed with so many brilliant minds over the past centuries. Most of these philosophers were Greek. Logic is an offshoot of philosophy and contributes a great deal to how issues can be interpreted. Logic is the genesis of perspective or point of view. With its understanding, one is able to critically analyze issues from various dimensions and taking various schools of thought in the same. Since its early developments, logic has grown to become an integral body of its own, under philosophy. The question is, who was the father of logic? The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle has been widely accepted as the first father of logic. Aristotle was concerned with all forms of human knowledge. His interest in virtually everything was quite astounding for people of his generation and the then Greek society, even though that was the age of the Greek thinkers. Since forms of human knowledge are wide Aristotle wanted to come up with a hypothesis that comprehensively combines all the forms of human knowledge. The hypothesis was to help people understand all the human knowledge structures using one approach, and this was considered as the fundamental origin of logic. It is quite an interesting bit to come to think of it; having a single formula that can help understand all forms of knowledge in the world. Logic is a useful tool by which people come to know anything in nature. It was proposed by Aristotle as a governing law for correct reasoning in life; this was universally accepted by philosophers of the west until the 19th century. Aristotle considered logic as greater than verbal reasoning but a tool that could be employed in carrying out investigations because it helped one to thing outside the box by critical thinking. In his reasoning, Aristotle was the first to introduce scientific thought into daily human processes. Up to date his observation that was documented more than two thousand years ago is still being observed and continually being accepted by scientists worldwide. Aristotle was the first to propose the relationship between language and reality. In his proposal, he thinks that whatever we say is an accurate picture of what we are made. For example, a drug addict will always talk about drugs even in inappropriate places. And therefore, considering the language of people can help us understand the kinds of individuals living in the world. True to it, the English language indeed has a saying, “You are what you say” simply because what one says is a product of what he conceives deep down in his mind. This translates to what the person believes in, and thus, what makes his personality. In his work, Aristotle combined predicates with related subjects to come up with propositions which are considered either as true or false. Aristotle believed that certain circumstances are as a result of some particular challenges. For example, when a certain issue comes up, the procedure one takes in handling it can easily place the individual in a particular situation or circumstance. The solution is essentially a new circumstance altogether. Though the truth of a proposition is always determined by our past life experience, Aristotle’s theory has been seen as true. Even with the few examples above, logic hasn’t been exhausted. It is so wide and in some instances, very complicated. Considering the work that Aristotle did, he is supposed to be regarded as the father of logic.
