What Responsibility Means To Me
According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary Online it states that responsibility means:
- the quality or state of being responsible: such as moral, legal, or mental accountability reliability,
- trustworthiness something for which one is responsible.
As we grow in life every single one of us are expected to become as what they say become more responsible. But in reality, do we really understand what it is to become a responsible person in life? Or to make it simple what is responsibility to begin with?
I think being responsible in life is first being taught in the family. In which children or anyone in young age is being guided by the elder ones by being a good example or image to them. They are basically taught of things that matters in life such as being honest and brave enough to be accountable on any action, words or anything that one may commit in life. Adults need to thoroughly explain that we do have privileges and freedom in life but one must not be blinded that along with these good things in life we must never forget that we shall always be held accountable for our actions. If the children understands these things in their young age they’ll live a good life as they could balance and understand things around them. Also, some might teach their children the ‘golden rule’ or ‘Do not do unto others, what you do not want others do to you’ in which this rule shows lesson about being responsible and the law of reaction or the law that explains what could and will happen when we do something toward others.
Furthermore, responsibility is also being shaped by the school. As students, we are asked to do task like assignments and projects and these things are expected to be done on time as well as done neatly and with outmost performance. Not just assignments and projects, but also in group work activities, school duties and a lot more that shows that little by little we are entrusted to do something and that is part of responsibility.
In age, as we grow continuously we are going to graduate and eventually land to a job, and there goes another responsibility in life. We are expected to spend eight hours a day to work on, or reports to submit on schedule because this is part of being a responsible person. We do task diligently as we have been asked because we understand that we are responsible enough to take care of our actions.
Consequences of our actions is important to understand, because what happens when we forget our responsibility is sometimes a lifelong lesson to ourselves. As an example is that everyone can do what they want, including evil or bad things, but then again if we do such act the consequences such follow through and we have to be responsible enough to face it and get what we deserve. One example is that when we get drunk and drive, is that being responsible enough? I highly doubt that and so we must be mature as days gone by and learn to abide to rules especially when we are the ones who will benefit on doing the right thing.
In general, in years to come as we grow and get into age we become more mature and held greater responsibility. When we were young our basic responsibility is to make sure the television should turn off when no one is watching, try not to spill our food and some more basic things but now that we have grown up we are asked on bigger and important matters by our parents, our teachers and staffs, and a lot more of people who believes that we are honest and good enough to handle the situation.
